A new life!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God has great mercy, and because of his mercy he gave us a new life. This new life brings us a living hope through Jesus Christ’s resurrection from death. Now we wait to receive the blessings God has for his children. These blessings are kept for you in heaven. They cannot be ruined or be destroyed or lose their beauty. 1 Peter 1:3-4

Your choice will change your life in a drastic way. You will discover what God’s love for you means. God wants to be your guide and will help you in all of life’s challenges. You can rely on that. You will also discover God’s purpose for your life.

If you chose a life with God, He will fill you with His Holy Spirit. He will help and lead you.

Because you will receive God’s love, you can also share this love with others. You can do that by telling others about Him, and by showing it to people. You cannot do this in your own strength, but you can do it if you let God guide and help you.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits. Love will never end. But all those gifts will come to an end—even the gift of prophecy, the gift of speaking in different kinds of languages, and the gift of knowledge. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

From now on, spend time on your relationship with God. Get to know Him better by reading the Bible. Often talk to Him. You don’t have to wait for a specific time. You may speak to Him whenever you want, out loud or silently.

From now on, you are part of God’s spiritual kingdom and of God’s family. And you can be sure of an eternal life with God in the future.

It Will not Always be an Easy Life

You are not suddenly superhuman, but still remain a normal person. Temptations in your life will not go away. Other people can still hurt you. Jesus lived as a man in this world and also knew much pain and humiliation. You may know that He understands what you are going through. He will help you and give you strength, you can rely on that.

Do not be disappointed if you still make mistakes. God knows you are human. That was the reason why He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world, to die for our sins. He died for your mistakes from the past, but also for those you make today, and will make tomorrow. Tell God what you did wrong and that you regret what you did. He will forgive you again. But if you love God, you will want to do your best to get rid of all bad things from your life.

How do you share this with the people close to you?

[ Jezus said: ] “If the world hates you, remember that they hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as it loves its own people. But I have chosen you to be different from those in the world. So you don’t belong to the world, and that is why the world hates you. “Remember the lesson I told you: Servants are not greater than their master. If people treated me badly, they will treat you badly too. And if they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours too. They will do to you whatever they did to me, because you belong to me. They don’t know the one who sent me. John 15:18-21

I know that in some countries it is a disgrace to believe in Jesus Christ. It can be very difficult to tell your family and friends that you believe in Him. Sometimes it will have an enormous impact on your life.

If you have made this choice, you will be happy and enthusiastic and you will want to tell the people around you. Sometimes this can be dangerous, or family ties and friendships will be broken. Ask God for wisdom and strength in these things.

In any case, pray for the people around you, that they will discover the truth for themselves.

Read the Bible daily

To find out more about God and Jesus Christ, just read the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God. In the Bible you can read about Gods plan with mankind. You can read about other people’s relationships with God. You can learn from God and from the mistakes and victories of other people.

Many stories in the Bible are about the relationship between God and man. They are about people who turn their back on God, and about people who respond to God’s love and give Him the respect He deserves. The Bible tells of people who struggle with their desires and about the love of God for people who truly want to find Him.

The Bible is available in almost every language. You can read the Bible online, but often it is easier to read from a printed copy.

At first the stories in the Bible may be difficult to understand. That is okay. The more you read, the more you will learn. You will also discover that the whole Bible is really about Jesus Christ and God’s love, justice and His plan of salvation for man. One of the main themes in the Bible is God’s love for people.

There is no need to start on the first page of the Bible. My advice is to start with John’s gospel. In this part of the Bible you can learn much about Jesus. You will also find there what Jesus Himself said.

Try to find other followers of Jesus

When you have just made a choice for God, it is good to contact others who accepted the offer of Jesus Christ, just like you. These people are often called Christians. But not all people who call themselves Christian truly follow Christ and trust God. A true Christian is someone who gave his heart and even his whole life to Jesus Christ. Someone who believes that the Bible is reliable and truly the Word of God. Someone who wants to live according to God’s will. Try to find such real Christians.

Other Christians can help you to learn more about God. Also, it is good and helpful to read the Bible together and discover God’s purpose for our lives.

Try to find other Christians in your neighbourhood. You can start by looking for a church. That is not always easy, especially if you live in a country in which the good news of Jesus Christ is not welcome. Ask God if He would help you find other Christians. You could also search online for other Christians, if there are none close by.

Genuine Christians are still ordinary people. People who still make mistakes. If someone truly has a relationship with God, he will do his best to live according to God’s purpose. A true Christian will honour God and love other people.

As I said, not everyone who calls himself Christian is truly Christian. If you notice that Jesus Christ and the Bible are not first priority in a church or group, then it may be better to move on. If people are mainly concerned with themselves and their own needs, you should ask yourself whether they are truly Christians, who have given God first priority in their lives, and whether you can learn more about God from them.

At the bottom of this page you can find a number of articles and links to websites on which you can get to know other Christians.

Be baptized

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. But those who do not believe will be judged guilty. Mark 16:16

If you trust in God and want to give Him first priority in your life, if you believe that Jesus Christ died for you and was raised from the dead, it is good to be baptised.

Baptism means being submerged in water. You are baptised in the name of God the Father, Jesus, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. By baptism you show God and others that you ‘died’ and were ‘raised’, just like Jesus. You died to sin and were spiritually born again when you started a new life.

What’s next?

Your choice is the beginning of a life of learning. Entrusting yourself to God’s guidance in your life will sometimes be very difficult. You have been used to making your own decisions. You must think about what is really important in your life. Step by step you will learn, with ups and downs. It will not always be easy.

We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. These are the people God chose, because that was his plan. Romans 8:28

If you trust in God, you will be able to face all challenges! He will always help you.

Trust the Lord completely, and don’t depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way. Proverbs 3:5-6

Followers of the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is your strength and shield. Psalms 115:11

My help will come from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. Psalms 121:2
